Two of Wiltshire's seven 'Air Quality Management Areas' are in the Devizes constituency in Devizes and Marlborough. This is where pollution levels regularly exceed legal limits. The towns are regularly overwhelmed with traffic and any disruption such as temporary traffic lights or a vehicle breaking down brings traffic to a halt and drivers take to local lanes to avoid the town centres.

Did you know that in Wiltshire the Oil & Gas Authority (OGA) has announced that four Petroleum Exploration and Development Licence (PEDLs) have been granted for initial investigations into the feasibility of fracking for shale gas and oil? One of these is in the 'eastern block' of Wiltshire which extends from Devizes to Warminster which means that if geological survey results are positive they will drill.

The Liberal Democrats oppose 'fracking' because of its adverse impact on climate change, the energy mix, and the local environment.

The Liberal Democrats will pass a Green Transport Act, introduce an Air Quality Plan to reduce air pollution and protect UK citizens and support the manufacture of low-emission and electric vehicles, generating jobs and exports. This plan will include a diesel scrappage scheme, and a ban on the sale of diesel cars and small vans in the UK by 2025. We will also reform vehicle taxation to encourage sales of electric and low-emission vehicles.
