David Kinnaird for Devizes North
I am asking for your support as the candidate for Devizes North in the local elections this May 6th 2021. I have lived in Wiltshire for the past 22 years - aside from 3 very different years when I lived with my family in New York. I am married with three kids, all of whom have been through our local primary and Lavington School. I currently work in Operations for a Software Company that supports companies who want to provide flexible short-term offices and workspaces. In this sector previously I provided such offices all over the UK and India and before that 15 Years as an officer in the British Army serving all over the world. It was of course the Army that introduced me to Wiltshire and I have never looked back.
I have always supported my community - as a school governor, a fund raiser, a youth group leader, a village football team, and community planter. It's what many people do of course in trying to make their community and their society work for them - and we saw this during the pandemic as immediately deliveries were arranged for prescriptions, and check-ins for lonely parishioners.
Communities work when we all work together. I am passionately anti-racist and uncomfortable with the narrow nationalist path that our Conservative Government has set and have witnessed first-hand how this has trickled down to make some communities less tolerant and more divided.
I am a member of a local environmental group who plant trees and hedges all over the Pewsey Vale. I am hugely invested in making sure that we all minimise energy use and help to tackle the climate emergency. This means understanding how older houses can become better insulated, how we can use more solar and how we can move away from oil and gas heating - and do all of this without upsetting the planners and conservationists. I believe that we should all be able to cycle safely from our villages to our towns and decouple rural transport from the expensive need to own a car.
