Mark Mangham for Bromham, Rowde and Roundway
I am asking for your support as the candidate for the Bromham, Rowde & Roundway ward in the local council elections in May 2021.
I had a career in the army which took me around the world and I now work as a defence consultant advising armed forces both in the UK and Europe on leadership and helping to develop and deliver training. I have been treasurer of the Friends of Erlestoke prison for 10 years supporting rehabilitation and prisoner families. I have three adult children and, Fiz, my wife works at Rowdeford School as a teaching assistant. I sing in local choirs, support local sports playing cricket badly and enjoy the variety of cultural festivals the town hosts.
During lockdown, I was a volunteer with the Devizes group and was reminded of the power we have within the community to make a difference. The cross-party approach of that group contrasted with the Conservative government attitude in Westminster.
People are too often left out of the equation, and so I want to put people first, not ideology or dogma, and not vested interests whether of the polarised right or left. People deserve clean air - and as a proud owner of solar panels, and an early owner of a hybrid cars, I am keen that we combat climate change with persistent and practical steps. People, not cars, need to be the focus in the town centre - and I am pleased that finally and grudgingly Wiltshire Council have allowed the town to let people enjoy the market square. We need to go further.
People need support whether to prevent them from being summarily moved as in the Rowde HFT saga, or in the woeful cancellation of youth serves that would have been so useful in combating the rise in mental health issues.
I have ideas about what I want to fix - but they are not set in stone - I am keen to hear yours.
