Meeting to discuss Wiltshire Council’s Special Schools Consultation

July 16, 2018 9:30 AM - 11:00 AM
Marlborough Scout Hall, George Lane, Marlborough, SN8 4BX

Our council is considering making substantial changes to special educational needs schools in Wiltshire.

Their consultation proposes three options to increase special school places by 2026. One of these options is to close Rowdeford School and two others in North Wiltshire and replace them with a new "super" school.

The consultation implies a cost first approach with phrases such as "economies of scale" and "transport costs are similar for all the proposals".

But what about the children? Is a large super school best for their needs? Will children with SEND flourish in a large school?

What about the children from the NE side of Wiltshire, such as Marlborough? How will they cope with the additional travel time to Chippenham or Trowbridge?

Wiltshire Councillors Ian Thorn, Jon Hubbard, Nick Fogg, Jane Davies and James Sheppard, have agreed to attend our meeting to listen to parents of SEND children to understand our children's needs. Our aim is for them to understand and then represent our children's needs at the Wilts Council meetings.
